Two Worthy Links

I had plans to work on my Middle East piece when I got home tonight, but am too discouraged. I REALLY don’t like my job – it’s boring – but there aren’t a lot of other choices in Victoria right now – at least not ones that pay the bills. It’s not the people or the setting, just the overall uselessness of it all and the gung ho company spirit, complete with cheesy slogans the managers have to swallow whole and regurgitate at every possible opportunity.

I’ve been going to the hospital daily and this afternoon’s visit coincided with an exceptionally bad moment for Dad. Suffice it to say there have been bowel difficulties since the surgery and diapers are being mooted because of his extremely restricted mobility. Dad is miserable. He’s a naturally melancholy man to begin with and it’s hard for him to keep his spirits up.

Vlanny and I once discussed these aspects of old age and decided the solution was to get our hands on a lethal dose of heroin and conceal it in a crunchable tooth – a la the Nazis – for use when we felt our freedom was gone and we had nothing left in store but becoming a burden to the people we love most.

I’m going to finish today by providing two worthy links. If I weren’t techno-peasant, I’d embed one of them, but since the copy of Google Blogger for Dummies I ordered on Sunday hasn’t arrived yet, a link will have to do.

The first one is a beautifully-written memoir: http://annies-letters.blogspot.com/2009/01/let-me-tell-you-about-palestine-way-it.html

The second one is a song (choose Song for Gaza from the menu bar): http://www.michaelheart.com/

Sorry for my downbeat tone - I'm off to bed shortly and I'm sure I'll be refreshed and cheerful once again by morning.
